Abstract

A real time implementation of Direct Torque Control (DTC)[1], with a position encoder, on Brushless Doubly-Fed Reluctance Machine (BDFRM)[2] is reported in the paper. This paper is the extension of previous papers reported at the same conference in year 2002[3] and 2003 [4]. The preliminary studies on experimental hardware show the consistent results as predicted by computer simulations. The machine offline test, as well as other hardware devices were described. The unlinearity of stator inductance has been shown. However, the linear machine model is still a valid approach in that stator inductance varies in a narrow range depending on rotor position. The real time digital controller was designed based on BDFRM estimation techniques. The result shows the promising control potential for BDFRM and will be serving as foundation for the further studies, such as sensorless control.
