Abstract

The paper details the ESRC Festival of Social Science (2015) funded ‘Using Street Triage to Reduce Inappropriate Use of Section 136 of the Mental Health Act’ event. Organised by Paul Biddle (Research Fellow at Northumbria University), the event was designed to enable policymakers, academics, practitioners and third sector organisations to explore the need for, development of, outcomes achieved by and the sustainability of Street Triage approaches. It was also designed to share research findings and practice, and to consider the future direction of Street Triage. The event included presentations from several Street Triage services, a question & answer session with the event panel and roundtable discussions and feedback. The paper explains Street Triage, includes details of each presentation, summaries of the question & answer and roundtables sessions and conclusions.
