Abstract

This literature review was completed in order to provide an important context in the development of training and resources for school nurses. The aim was to explore the impact training and resources have on the knowledge and confidence of school nurses as well as consider the barriers to this.

Globally there are examples of school nurses reporting increased knowledge and confidence following the completion of subject specific training. Unfortunately, there is a gap in the literature with regards to how school nurses in the United Kingdom (UK) specifically feel that they respond to training and the impact it has
on their own practice.

The current evidence base lacks the school nurses voice on this subject area. Further research is necessary to clarify this area. This would address and support some of the queries raised regarding the training needs of school nurses in the ongoing process of commissioning.
