Abstract

A series of 5 sculptures, which reproduce in positive form by means of laser scanning and CNC-milling in rigid foam, the interior ‘negative’ spaces of 5 carved wooden, original Barbara Hepworth sculptures.
Research aims:
1. To explore the potential for an art work to give form to the narratives and experiences of organ donor families and the medical staff who care for both donors and recipients of human transplants.
2. To explore, through practice-based research, the sculptural representation of a negative space in a positive form, as a means to articulate and make visible the absence and loss associated with organ donation.
