Abstract

A novel, inexpensive technique for the detection of concealed objects is outlined. The ability of this intensity only technique to recover phase information about the object under test proves to be significant in the imaging of concealed objects. A brief examination of the underlying theory followed by a description of the experimental system is presented along with some initial results obtained from the imaging of three different concealed objects.

Item Type: Article
Additional Information: Published in the Special issue of MJ on "Advances in Biometrics: Theory, Security and Applications" (editors: W.L. Woo, S.S. Dlay, Newcastle Univ.) describes a new method for imaging of concealed objects from intensity measurements. This method requires only a single measurement set, significantly reducing measurement time, and adapts holographic techniques for microwave frequencies. It describes how previous limitations, which have prevented the use of holographic methods at microwave frequencies, have been overcome. Theoretical work is supported by experimental data to illustrate their use in a number of imaging applications. A PhD research (J. M. Fdo) funded by University Studentship.
