Abstract

A wiki provides opportunities for “real” social constructivism with teachers and learners co-editing, co-creating and co-constructing content. A wiki can be used as a resource to shift the emphasis from the teacher to the learner as a tool for collaborative learning whilst at the same time personalising the student learning experience. The workshop aims to enable participants feel empowered to set up student-directed activities, and use a wiki to manage computer supported collaborative learning in their practice that empowers students to engage in active learning. Workshop participants will be provided with personalised, contextual material that can be integrated into their daily teaching and learning practice by: • Sharing experiences of using a wiki to support collaborative learning. • Hearing the experiences of others, assess the risks and barriers to overcome in using a wiki. • Helping participants decide on ways in which wikis could be used with learners in their own practice. • Providing an opportunity for participants to collaborate and share in small teams; working with colleagues, to facilitate exploration of an aspect of teaching suitable for a wiki.
