Abstract

The paper considers aspects of scalar V/f control, vector control and direct torque (and flux) control (DTC) of the brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM). Apart from giving a comprehensive review of the various control methods that are generally applicable to both the BDFRM and the closely related doubly-excited wound rotor induction machine, its major contribution is the presentation and experimental verification of a sensorless DTC scheme which, unlike most of the existing algorithms, can perform well down to zero supply frequency of the inverter-fed winding.
