Abstract

Building energy simulation and analysis tools are widely adopted within the construction industry to predict the energy performance of buildings and their associated systems. Despite today's computing capacity, these tools tend to be time intensive in terms of model development and simulation run time. The lumped parameter method offers a computationally efficient and quick to setup approach for building modelling. This research adopts a third order lumped parameter building envelope model and sets out to develop robust HVAC system models with sophisticated controls to be embedded within the building model. The performance accuracy of the fully embedded simulation tool over short and long time horizons is tested by comparing its performance to commonly used simulation tools used in industry today. Comparative analyses have been conducted for the model which has shown good agreement with other commercially available tools.
