Abstract

This paper considers the impact of consolidation of Nigeria’s banking sector and places emphasis on cognitive aspects of engagement and dis-engagement.Initial findings point to lack of commitment and engagement in the banks, which has led to cynicism and lack of trust in management. Employees’ perceptions about the level to which the organisations cares about their well-being and the ways in which managers/the organisation maintains transparency in its processes and relations with employees promotes or limits employees engagement with their day-to-day roles and responsibilities, which may impact on the banks’ overall aims and objectives
