Abstract

This paper presents an effective method for segmenting and building three-dimensional (3D) human models with different levels of detail (LOD) from scanned human data. Firstly, the scanned human body is decomposed into different parts according to the topological structure of human bodies. Then a simplification algorithm is developed to generate LOD human models in terms of information extracted during segmentation. The approach proposed in this paper is capable of locating key feature points accurately and controlling detail easily.
