Abstract

Substance P is implicated in controlling micturition reflexes. This investigation revealed Substance P immunoreactive terminals which markedly declined in spinal regions associated with bladder emptying/storage that were not replicated in regions associated with sphincter control. This observation reinforces concepts of ‘differential susceptibility’ to ageing in terms of axon pathology.
