Abstract

This show marks a stage in ongoing visual research using ideas of getting from A to B, the pit falls, non-starters and spaces we move through to get there. It was sponsored by the BC Arts Council and the Canadian Council for the Arts. The spaces are known and unknown, showing the interruptions and changes that can occur. Ogilvie has been developing these ideas since 2002, while working as a visiting artist/lecturer at Minneapolis College of Art and design. The work was shown in Vancouver at the Malaspina Gallery at the end of 2004, in an exhibition of prints and wall mounted cut outs called,’ Hither and Thither’. Ogilvie was the international resident artist (2 artists per year are panel selected for the solo show/residency programme), where she spent one month working in lithography and two weeks traveling to Vancouver Island. As well as the solo exhibition Ogilvie made slide lecture/presentations based on her practice to members and associates of the Malaspina Print Society and also at the University of British Columbia to staff and students in the Department of Visual Art. Further research involved experimentation with multimedia following training development at ISIS Arts, New media studio, Newcastle in August 2006, from which she developed a short Director animation using drawings related to the Hither and Thither work. Other associated exhibitions which have shown pieces from this body of work include -'Through a Child’s Eye', Edinburgh Printmakers, 2005, 'Impressions', invited group show,The RBSA Gallery, Birmingham, 2005, 'Making a Mark', Northern Print Gallery, 2006, ‘Stone•Plate•Grease•Water’, Y Taberncl – Museum for Modern art Wales, Machynlleth, 2007 Internationale grafik triennale, Vienna Künstlerhaus 2007.
