Abstract

'Space-Time’ draws together works that reflect upon applications of astronomical observations and the role of time in our everyday lives, memory and future. Curated by National Glass Centre, ‘Space-Time’ is informed by our association with the monastic site of Wearmouth-Jarrow (candidate for World Heritage Site status) and the Venerable Bede’s treatise On the Reckoning of Time. In this year, 2009, the world celebrates ‘The International Year of Astronomy’, and Galileo's use of the telescope to observe the night sky. The interaction of glass and light, and the science and development of optical technology has revolutionised our understanding of our place in the Universe
