Abstract

As a result of new rules brought in by the Charities Act 2006, Students’ Unions are now required to be “registered charities” rather than being exempt from registration as they were in the past. What does this mean for Students’ Unions and how does it affect RAG committees associated with those Unions?

In this seminar Elaine Campbell will look at the requirements and implications of registration with the Charities Commission, the restrictions placed on RAGs and how the new legislation affects fundraising.

Elaine Campbell is a solicitor who has previously worked at national law firm Dickinson Dees LLP and regional heavyweight Sintons LLP. She is currently a Solicitor Tutor at Northumbria University, supervising 4th year law students who advise members of the public on business law matters including charity law and the legal issues relating to social enterprise through the award winning Student Law Office.
