In this work, an optical wireless link for ground-to-train system is experimentally demonstrated in the laboratory. A line-of-sight (LOS)optical wireless link for ground-to-train communications is presented and the measured Q-factor performance along the rail track for the proposed prototype system is analysed. A downlink communication over one part of the track using one base station (BS) issuccessfully demonstrated for 1.1 m with a bit error rate (BER) of <10-6 at the longest point along the track. Also, the turbulence effect is investigated using a 5.5 m long indoor simulation chamber and scaled to the outdoor real train showing that the system has a good tolerance againstthe effect of turbulence.
