This essay reconsiders some of the arguments raised in my earlier article: 'Made in Patriarchy: Towards a Feminist Analysis of Women and Design' which was furst published in Design Issues in 1986. That article, prepared over ten years ago, had two main aims. The first was to analyze the pariarchal context within which women interact with design as practitioners, theorists, consumers, historians, and as objects of representation. The second was to examine the methods used by historians to record that interaction.
