The research topic concerns an experimental study on the dynamic behaviour of masonry barrel vaults under dynamic loading. The specimens, after damage, were strengthened with polymeric composite materials. The dynamic behaviour was evaluated under different configurations and loadings. The barrel vaults were built with solid sanded clay bricks and weak mortar and they were tested with dynamic loads and damaged under static loads. The dynamic loading was applied installing a vibrodyne at the left hand vault springing inducing a horizontal dynamic force. The static test was carried out until a damage configuration was reached by the formation of three hinges. The experimental measurements were made by a set of accelerometers and a laser vibrometer. The experimental results showed good dynamic behaviour of the undamaged structures. The attenuation of first mode frequency could be an index of damage to the structure. The dynamic tests on repaired vaults recorded a frequency value comparable with that for the undamaged vaults.
