Fatigue is a dominant symptom for approximately 70% of people with primary Sjögren’s syndrome (PSS) and a symptom which patients report as needing improvement. It has a negative impact on quality of life and affects patients’ ability to participate in valued life activities. For many patients, there are assignable causes for their fatigue, including co-morbidities and side effects of medication. We have identified the main predictors of fatigue in the UKPSSR cohort and tested for differences between those with assignable causes of fatigue (co-morbidities and medications associated with drowsiness) and those who have no assignable causes for their fatigue. In light of these findings, appropriate clinical interventions to manage fatigue in PSS patients will be discussed, including the Newcastle multi-disciplinary CRESTA Fatigue clinic model. Data from the first cohort of 50 PSS patients who have accessed the CRESTA fatigue service will also be presented.
