Abstract

IEEE 802.11 proposed a number of standards and each one had a specific goal. The 802.11g wireless standard was initiated to improve the data rate to 54 Mbps while promising backward compatibility with 802.11b devices that works at 11 Mbps data rate. Their co-existence in a wireless network can be an interesting scenario. There can be access points and mobile nodes of different standards trying to interact with each other. We want to focus on 802.11b and 802.11g, along with 802.11a and other mixed modes to analyze the throughput, delay and other performance metrics through simulation. Lastly we propose a brief WLAN dual band mobility architecture that combines both 802.11g and 802.11a.
