Abstract
This article considers the admissibility of expert opinions expressed by means of a verbal scale in England and Wales and other common‐law jurisdictions, particularly Australia. It questions whether such evidence can be considered “helpful” to a jury and whether it meets the new English guidelines for assessing whether expert evidence is “sufficiently reliable to be admitted”.
