Abstract

This paper introduces a novel model for positioning in a single channel or multiple input multiple output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system using a minimum number of transmitters. The method is based on the estimation of the user's velocity between the previous and current positions. The estimated velocity and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) are obtained only from a single transmitter is utilised to determine user's position as compared to the existing positioning methods such as the triangulation method. In MIMO VLC the model will be used for self-correction scheme to complete the channel state information matrix with missing elements during the pilot signal period. Simulation results show that the method is effective in obtaining the position of the user.
