The UNCRC makes specific reference to the guidelines which should inform domestic adoption laws and processes. Compliance with these however is not always easy, and often resource demanding. The likelihood is that children in some parts of the world will remain poorly protected by the law or its agencies. This article considers the plight of Pacific island children and draws attention to the legal and other challenges that are encountered in this part of the world.
