The conference focused on small island states and the theme of legal hybridity. This paper looked at the interface of international, national and local laws, including customary laws, affecting marine resources and their management in parts of the Pacific. In particular the paper considered the various players at each level and the extent to which there is a coherent legal framework in place to ensure the sustainability of marine resources, and the ways in which, if at all, indigenous traditional knowledge in this area informs national and international strategies.
