This chapter examines methodological approaches used in experimental fieldwork of Volkswagen (VW) campervan mobilities in the UK. With reference to the mobilities paradigm that welcomes interdisciplinary and mobile methods, I contribute creative epistemologies used in an auto-ethnographic study of driving on a British motorway. From the foundations of art school meets social science meets actor-network theory (ANT), my perambulating approach to data collection in artistic participative interventions, as suggested, have enabled ways of seeing mobile phenomenon from an imaginative and embodied perspective. This chapter therefore seeks to prompt researchers from different archetypal fields of practice, to consider using messy methodologies ‘off the beaten track’.
