Abstract

The Capacity Building for Communities Project is based in North Tyneside Voluntary Organisations Development Agency (VODA) and funded by Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF). The project ensures local people have a voice to promote local issues thus influencing policy and practice at neighbourhood level. SCRI were commissioned to carry out an evaluation of this project for VODA to establish its effectiveness in building the capacity of community groups through training and support, in supporting community groups' engagement with neighbourhood level partnerships, and in ensuring neighbourhood level policy and practice reflects community need. The evaluation will take place in two stages and meet the following objectives: to develop a set of baseline indicators based upon the project's performance at Stage 1, and to monitor progress and impact of the project against these baseline indicators at Stage 2. Research methodologies include: desk-based analysis, semi-structured interview, Participatory Appraisal, focus groups and Rapid Appraisal.
