Abstract

TULCA 2011 is curated by Megs Morley. This year the concept for the programme is “After the fall”, a familiar yet ambiguous phrase that is used in this context to relate a set of ideas querying the role of art at a time of local, national and international recession, political collapse and social upheaval. These collapses expose the current porousness between the logics of society, economy, politics and capital. The exhibition; a pause in an endless circulation of ideas, is part of a system that mirrors these spheres, yet is simultaneously defined by the ongoing blurring between the definitions of life, art and politics. The impossibility of subversion in this context is apparent, but through the creation of a temporary community formed through local and international networks of exchange, the exhibition provides the opportunity to intervene into private and public spheres of intersubjective and collective understandings. “After the fall”, attempts to look at art in a wide scope of contexts that positions itself in the juncture at the end of one era and the beginning of the next.
