Abstract

Continuum investigates what happens to someone when the continuity of this personal ‘script’ is interrupted. By exploring the impact of serious brain injury on an individual – the disruption of the continuity of experience by the trauma of injury disrupts that individual’s impression of themselves and can lead to personality change.

Since the investigation of the play revolves around an individual’s life script being disrupted and the disorientation that causes, the play seeks to create this experience for the audience through developing a fractured structure. The timescale is obscure to the audience for much of the play and scenes are of unpredictable length and sometimes run concurrently with other scenes. The rigour is obviously to ensure that there are sufficient touchstones for the audience to ensure understanding.
