Abstract
This output is based on a conference held at the University of Northumbria in 2000. The special issue of refereed edited papers contributes to a wider debate taking place on both sides of the Atlantic concerning the relationship between gender and the ‘difference’ of age. The articles collected here not only discuss representations of older women but also engage with the ways in which feminism itself has been historicised in terms of ‘waves’. Several of the articles examine how older women are imagined in fashion, literature and film, while others critically interrogate the assumptions embedded within the wave paradigm. The dual focus of this special issue as well as its interdisciplinary content makes it a unique and innovative publication. Bazin wrote approximately half the introduction and was responsible for half the editorial work.
