Abstract
This research questioned the making process normally associated with the production of an artwork within the idiom of painting. Hughes’s series of artworks attempt to give an equality of space and attention to all elements within the constituted artwork. A primary research aim was to rethink what constitutes the painted artwork.
Hughes has a long standing engagement with incidental moments in creative work and this period of research’s aim was to bring equivalence to all materials and processes within the constituent artworks.
The research question asks ‘How can fractions of time commonly occluded in the making process be foregrounded as artistic subject?’
