Pigeon fanciers’ lung (PFL) is one of the most common forms of extrinsic allergic alveolitis (EAA). It is thought that PFL is caused by the deposition of immune complexes onto the alveolar epithelial surface causing damage to the lung. It is also unclear as to why some fanciers are asymptomatic despite the high levels of anti-avian antibodies in their serum.
