Abstract

Not Necessarily in the Right Order is a major new work by the British film and photography collective Common Culture. Formed in Liverpool in 1996, the collective currently consists of, David Campbell, Mark Durden, Ian Brown.The Art Historian Dr. Grant Pooke, author of 'Contemporary British Art: An Introduction, 2010, discusses with members of Common Culture (David Campbell, Mark Durden, Ian Brown) the development of their major new commission the video installation Not Necessarily in the Right Order. Exploring the thematic concerns of Common Culture, the text provides an insight into the group’s interest in the construction of British Identity and the exploration of provocative aesthetic structures through video. The publication accompanies Common Culture’s solo exhibition at the New Art Exchange, Nottingham (27 September 2013 – 12 January 2014).
